Meet our Executives and Producers

Gary Sutherland, CIC, MLIS | CEO & Partner

Gary Sutherland has over 30 years of insurance experience and holds the prestigious designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), an honor attained by only 2% of all insurance brokers, as well as certification as a Management Liability Insurance Specialist (MLIS). Gary is the founder of NAPLIA and he oversees the operation and direction of all offices with a generosity and attention to detail that is unmatched. His diverse experience is invaluable to the service he provides to professionals. He has owned his own property management company, been a licensed property assessor, and held the position of National Sales Manager overseeing three national professional liability programs targeted to accountants, attorneys, and real estate professionals. Gary is married to Patrice and has three grown children. Gary spends his free time researching family history and genealogy.

Stephen Vono | CFO & Partner

Stephen Vono is a founding partner of NAPLIA and specializes in Accountants professional liability insurance. Stephen is active in several leading Accounting associations and presents regular at annual conferences for the Association of Accounting Administrators (AAA), MGI World, Enterprise Worldwide, and the Leading Edge Alliance. He currently serves as Vice President of the AAA North East Chapter, and is the recipient of their Distinguished Service Presidential Citation for outstanding support and contributions to members of AAA. (June 2010). He has written and published several articles on practice management for accounting firms.  Stephen and his wife, Mary, have one daughter. Stephen is a music aficionado, ask him about his vinyl collection.

Dogan Tuncel | VP & Partner

Dogan Tuncel has worked in the professional liability insurance industry for over 18 years, specializing in meeting the needs of accounting and financial professionals. Starting his career in professional liability in 1996, he was instrumental in launching a successful inside sales force for a nationally recognized carrier. Dogan currently writes more than 1,000 accounting firms nationwide, making him one of the most successful producers in the Accountants Professional Liability space. At NAPLIA he is responsible for new program and partner development. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a double major in Political Science and Economics. Dogan's other professional experience includes founding a successful Web Hosting company that he ultimately sold to one of the largest providers in the industry. Dogan is an avid sports fan and spends much of his free time skiing and traveling with his wife Bernie and their twins.

John Raspante, CPA | VP & Director of Risk Management

John F. Raspante is the former Director of Compliance and Risk Management as well as the Director of Education for Graf Repetti & Co. LLP, Certified Public Accountants & Business Advisors. Prior to joining Graf Repetti, John worked nine years for CAMICO Mutual Insurance Company, the nation's second largest provider of accountants' professional liability insurance. John's primary responsibility at CAMICO was providing loss prevention services to the organization's largest insured's. A resident of Freehold, NJ, John earned a BBA in accounting from Baruch College (CUNY) and a master's degree in tax from Washington School of Law. His professional affiliations include memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and six state accounting societies. He also serves on NYSSCPA's Compilation and Review Committee, NJSCPA's Editorial Board and the Accounting and Auditing interest group, and the National Conference of CPAs' Ethics Committee. John is a frequent author and speaker within the accounting profession on issues relating to risk management. John's role at NAPLIA includes working directly with new clients, as well as, providing risk management services to NAPLIASelect, representing our top tier clients.

Paul Smith, AIF | Senior VP, Investment Advisory Services

Paul began a concentrated focus on the retirement plan market while at PaineWebber's Boston office in the early 90's, working with businesses throughout New England as a Registered Representative and Series 65 licensed Registered Investment Advisor. He holds the AIF designation, in concert with having earned the ARPC (Accredited Retirement Plan Consultant) designation.  Paul is a graduate of The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Paul's long tenure at Transamerica began at Transamerica Asset Management in 1994, as a consultant throughout the New England area, supporting the Investment Advisory community, followed by a VP role in the Business Development Group at Transamerica Retirement Services. Paul's expertise in qualified plan design and current Fiduciary procedures make him a significant resource to the NAPLIA team. Paul lives in Norfolk MA with his wife Karen.

Matt Fager | VP / Producer

Matt Fager has worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years, specializing in professional liability insurance. He has held sales and underwriting positions for specialized companies including ProMutual, Physicans Insurance Agency, and AON. Matt is a graduate of Susquehanna University with a major in Political Science.  Matt has specialized in the legal professional liability market for much of his career and his insight in lawyers professional liability, gained through experience, is unmatched in Massachusetts.
Matt enjoys tennis and skiing in his free time and has visited baseball stadiums across the country.

Rob Ferrini | Program Manager / Producer

Rob Ferrini is NAPLIA's Program Manager specializing in Cyber Liability / Data Breach Response coverage for accountants. At NAPLIA, Rob has served as an accountant's professional liability underwriter and he has more than 15 years of insurance industry experience. His past experience includes owning and operating several small businesses in both retail and service industries. He also serves as a board member of several local non-profit organizations, including the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce. When Rob is not assisting clients with their insurance needs, he and his wife, Eileen, enjoy traveling and spending time with their two daughters and dog, Obie.

Meet our Underwriting Staff

Michelle MacNeil

Michelle is the Underwriting Manager at NAPLIA where she oversees the underwriting team, manages client relations, and streamlines underwriting processes and procedures for efficiency and best practices. She is also responsible for underwriting all of the CPA ProSecure Accountant's Professional Liability policies up to $15K in premium. She joined NAPLIA's underwriting department in 2007 and has worked on all NAPLIA programs, specializing in Architects & Engineers and Accountants programs. Before joining NAPLIA, she served as an underwriter on a Lawyer's Professional Liability program and Real Estate Agents Professional Liability. She holds a Property and Casualty license, is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), and is completing RPLU coursework for program certification. 

Lisa Ventre

Lisa is an underwriter specializing in Investment Professional Errors and Omissions insurance, Information Security & Privacy Liability (cyber), and Bonds & Fiduciary insurance. She oversees both new and renewal business within these categories. She joined NAPLIA in 2009, and in her time at NAPLIA her underwriting experience has included Accountants, Lawyers, Fiduciaries, Tech E&O, Architects & Engineers, all bonds, and all ancillary products (e.g. Employee Dishonesty, Employment Practices Liability, and Directors  & Officers). Her previous professional experience includes a 20-plus year technology career as a Project Manager/Business Analyst. Lisa completed the College Certification Program at Boston University, Massachusetts, is a Licensed Producer, and a member of PLUS.

Alison Lowell

Alison joined NAPLIA in 2006 as an underwriter handling renewals for our Home Inspector program. In her current role she serves as Claims Coordinator, supporting initiatives relative to the, processing, documentation and reporting of claims for all NAPLIA programs. Alison will work with Underwriters to insure loss runs are accurate and available in the renewal process. Alison's duties will also include acting as a communication liaison between the policy holders and carriers. Her previous experience includes 20 years at State Street Corporation in the Mutual Funds Division where she held various positions, most recently as an Account Manager. Alison received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire and she holds a Property and Casualty license. She and her husband Scott live in Medfield and have two sons.

Janna Egnitz

Janna joined NAPLIA in 2012 and currently serves as an underwriter focusing on renewal business for Accountants Professional Liability, Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Employee Dishonesty, and EPLI. She also assists with new business for all product lines. She previously held roles at a major Boston area accounting firm. Janna obtained a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and she holds a Massachusetts Individual Producer license.

Eric Sutherland

Eric joined NAPLIA in 2012 and is an underwriter focusing on smaller accounting firm clients. He also produces accountant firm quotes and orders to bind, as well as managing the licensing for NAPLIA. Prior to joining NAPLIA he worked for New York Life as a case manager serving as a liaison between life agents and underwriters. Eric is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth with a Bachelor's degree in Finance.

Meet our Office & Support Staff

Nancy Westbom | Office Manager

Nancy Westbom joined NAPLIA in 2001 as their first employee. Nancy manages the office administration and, along with her staff, is responsible for all aspects of Invoicing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Policy Issuance, and general back-office duties. She is a graduate of Muhlenberg College and holds an MBA from Boston University. Nancy lives with her husband Tom, has two grown children, and is an enthusiastic traveler and musician. 

Heather O'Connor | Assistant Office Manager

Heather joined NAPLIA in 2008 as Assistant Office Manager after many years spent in the hospitality industry. Heather provides organizational and administrative support for all NAPLIA programs, and her duties include account administration, client communication, business documentation, invoicing and general office duties. In her free time Heather is an enthusiastic soccer team manager and dedicated mother of two.

 

Emily Pakulat | Administrative Assistant

Emily joined NAPLIA in 2005 as an Administrative Assistant and in her role she reviews and issues polices, sends client correspondence, screens and routes client calls, and provides general office support. Emily and her husband live in Natick with their two-year old daughter.
